Bring The Outside In

Posted on

As our theme for this year’s International Wellbeing Wednesday on the 1st February is ‘Change your environment, Change your state’ today our thoughts turn to the natural environment.

Being stuck in the city surrounded by the grey buildings and air pollution can make us forget the positive effects green space can have on us. Plants not only help improve air quality like a sponge, absorbing carbon dioxide and emitting more oxygen, but they also help reduce our carbon footprint too! According to a recent study, introducing indoor plants to a working environment can have the following benefits:

37% reduction in tension/anxiety

58% reduction in depression/dejection

44% reduction in anger/hostility

28% reduction in fatigue

“The Lighthouse” (the Stress Management Society’s HQ) is located over the Grand Union Canal, surrounded by the beautiful views of the surrounding rivers and forestry. In side our office, we have ornamental plants that not only offer aesthetic appeal and comfort, but the green hues have also been found to have positive impacts on the human body.

According to a study by the University of Exeter, office plants can increase wellbeing by 47%, increase creativity by 45% and increase productivity by 38%. So they are not just pretty to look at.

So as part of Wellbeing Wednesday, why not introduce some greenery in to your environment in order to create a more tranquil and pleasant space for you and the people around you.
