What is the service and how does it work?

The service provides short-term counselling over video conferencing software.  When an employee accesses the counselling service portal, they will be provided with an initial 3 sessions of confidential counselling (can be extended to a maximum of 6 subject to approval)

You will arrange your first appointment through the booking portal subject to your convenience, this will send a diary invite to the calendar attached to the email address you choose to use.  We have made this process as simple as possible so it can be accessed through any device and with slower internet speeds.

The service has guaranteed appointments between 5.00pm-7.00pm (UK) Monday-Friday, appointments after that can be arranged directly with your counsellor at their discretion.

Who will you speak with on the initial call?

A UK-based team of fully qualified and experienced counsellors, with a wide range of specialities can offer online support. After booking yourself an appointment through the portal, you will be sent an automatic booking reply.  Your counsellor will then contact you within 24 hours.

Each and every counselling service case is handled by one of our counsellors who will become your dedicated case manager from start to finish.  You will be sent a reminder 24hours and 1 hour before your appointment.  On your initial appointment, the counsellor will collect your details, discuss the issue you are facing and complete a quick triage assessment to see if the short-term counselling service is appropriate for your needs.

If the service is deemed inappropriate for the level of care that you need, your counsellor will work with you to help you find options for a solution elsewhere.

If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, please do so with at least 25hours notice or this will be regarded as a missed appointment and will count towards your allocation.

Will my employer know I have called?

  • The counselling service is completely free & 100% confidential
  • You will need to show your DHL I.D. on the initial call to confirm you are eligible to use the service
  • Your name and personal information will never be shared your employer (Safeguarding exceptions apply)
  • It is available to you and employees attending the ‘Excelling Under Pressure’ workshops

How do I refer a colleague to the counselling service?

Due to the safe environment that we create during the workshops where people might explore things for the first time and the emotive nature of the subject matter, sometimes this can stir up strong feelings.  We always inform the group about support resources available to them during the session.

The colleague in question should be signposted to the counselling service.  To be clear; you or your employer cannot refer or discuss on the colleague’s behalf, you can supply the services numbers and encourage the colleague to make contact.

If the colleague is deemed to be a risk of harm to themselves or others – then it is a different situation entirely.  Contact the authorities for advice and/or to report.  This is their area of expertise, not yours.  In addition, if at any time you are aware of any illegality, you are duty bound to alert the relevant authorities.
