Tis the season to be jolly!
Is the run up to Christmas more “Ho Ho Ho” or “Oh No!”? Upon hearing the word Christmas, some light up with joy and excitement, but others begin to start worrying. It seems like December is a month where there is always so much to do and so much money to spend! Financial issues, extra obligations, family falling out, all these things can add to your stress levels.
So here are 5 helpful tips to help you destress this Christmas
1. Be well prepared!
To avoid last minute panic, or shopping on Christmas Eve it helps to be prepared. Start off by making a list of things you need to do or get for Christmas. Prioritise what you need and decide what can wait till later!
2. Shop online
If you are struggling for time, or the thought of the crowds at the shopping centre is too much to bear, then online shopping is certainly the easier option.
3. Make a budget
Christmas is a time of year where the pressure to spend is high. Food, drink, presents and decorations all add up so budgeting effectively is important to ensure you can make Christmas affordable and are not adding finances to the list of things you have to worry about.
4. Go easy on the Christmas tipple!
Ok so this makes us sound like party poopers, especially when Christmas is the season of parties. But too much alcohol consumption can compound the effects of stress and can add to financial pressure so take it easy this Christmas.
5. Don’t be a perfectionist
Aim for a happy Christmas, not a perfect one. At the end of the day, Christmas is all about having fun and taking time out of our busy working lives and our studies to spend some proper time with loved ones. So why not just enjoy yourself and allow yourself to relax at Christmas.
