Do you want to wake up more refreshed? Our sleep needs change at different times of life, but there is nothing better than waking up feeling completely recharged and rested after a good night’s sleep. sadly for many of us this doesn’t actually happen very often.

According to sleep expert Dr Nerina Ramlakhan when it comes to sleep, people generally tend to fall into two categories: ‘Sensitive sleepers’ and ‘Martini sleepers’. Sensitive sleepers as the name indicates, are vulnerable to slight noises, the sleep environment and to anything that may happen before bed, such as arguments. On the other hand, Martini sleepers can sleep anytime, anyplace, anywhere.

So if you are a sensitive sleeper what can you do to change how you sleep?

Stay well hydrated

According to Dr Ramlakhan a non-negotiable is drinking more water and making sure you’re staying hydrated. At least one litre to a litre-and-a-half a day should do the trick as not only do you lose water throughout the night, but being well hydrated can help reduce awakenings and disruptions caused by dehydration, such as a dry mouth and leg cramps.

TOP TIP: If you often forget to stay hydrated, set alarms evenly throughout your day, and drink a cup of water whenever they ring.
